Social media manager cost and pricing 2026

What does a social media manager actually cost?

The honest answer, with real market numbers. So you know what you're buying, whatever you choose.

What the market looks like

The price of a social media manager varies because the term covers very different scopes of work. A freelancer who only handles publishing costs differently from an agency that includes photographer, strategy, editing, and reporting. To understand what you are buying, you need to know which professional roles it actually takes to do the job properly.

This is the full stack, with current Italian market rates for restaurants and food venues.

Food photographer (4 sessions/month) EUR 200-400
Social media manager (strategy + publishing) EUR 1,500-3,000
Graphic designer (graphics, carousels, templates) EUR 120-640
Strategy and reporting EUR 500-1,000
Total market stack EUR 2,500-4,500/month

These figures assume a content volume appropriate for an active venue: 12-16 pieces per month, across Reels, carousels, and stories. Below that volume, organic growth does not stabilize.

Why the prices are what they are

Each professional Reel takes 3 to 4 hours of total work. On-site shooting, editing, caption writing, hashtag research, scheduling, replying to comments. If the weekly volume needed for meaningful growth is 3-4 Reels, that is 12-16 hours of work a week, just for Reels.

Add monthly strategy, reporting, direct message management, and the production of carousels and stories. The monthly total reaches 50-60 hours quickly for a professionally managed profile.

At EUR 25/hour (junior freelance rate), that is EUR 1,250-1,500 for management alone, before the photographer and before strategy.

Operational compression: one vendor instead of four

The price difference between the market stack (EUR 2,500-4,500/month) and an integrated service like Be Nerdy does not come from lower quality. It comes from eliminating fragmentation.

When photographer, strategy, editing, and publishing live inside the same workflow, you are not paying for coordination across separate vendors. Not for duplicated briefings. Not for the mismatch between the photographer's style and the feed's visual identity.

The math for your venue: one extra per day

Each plan pays for itself with a specific number of extra covers per month. At three different average ticket sizes:

The website service is a separate engagement and is not included in any social plan. If you need a website, we scope it separately.

Red flags when evaluating an offer

Not every low-price offer is a scam. Some are simply reduced services, and they do not tell you that clearly. These are the signals to watch for.

Pricing far below EUR 300/month

At that price point there is no room for a real photographer. You get templates, stock images, or content produced in bulk for five clients on the same day. You can tell.

No on-site photo session included

If the plan does not include shoots at your venue, the content comes from your own photos or image libraries. The algorithm rewards original content. Your audience recognizes stock.

Annual contracts before you have seen results

Anyone who is confident in their work does not need to lock you in for twelve months before proving value. A sensible minimum commitment is six months, after seeing the first results.

Reports that only show followers and likes

Followers and likes do not pay salaries. The metrics that matter are reach, profile clicks, saves, and traffic to your booking or website.

The question that actually matters

The cost of a social media manager is not only measured in euros per month. It is also measured in what you are already spending without realizing it.

If you manage social yourself, you are spending at least 6 hours a week on this work. At a real hourly cost of EUR 52/hr, that is EUR 1,340 a month of time you could spend on the floor, with suppliers, or simply at home.

The choice is not between "spending EUR 690" and "spending nothing." The choice is between two different ways to allocate a cost that already exists.
